Abstract
Today’s success in markets, both current and future, relies heavily on leadership utilizing design. It is believed that business leaders need to understand how to effectively use design to create competitive advantages for their companies. In this context, design leadership, a new concept of leadership, would help firms achieve maximum return on investment in their design. The main purpose of this chapter is to introduce a conceptual framework that illustrates the relationship between design leadership and the design process, which in turn affects team performance and satisfaction. This conceptual framework will help researchers further their understanding of design leadership and its influence on R&D team performance. The first part of this chapter is outlining the importance of the conceptual relationship between leadership, design process and team performance. Second part of this chapter is identifying the methodological gap and the process in designing the framework. The third part of this chapter developed the research prepositions leading towards future research questions.
