Abstract
The third edition of the Project Risk Analysis and Management Guide brings together a diverse range of risk practitioners in terms of both their role (e.g. advisory, academic and delivery) and sector (e.g. transport, nuclear, aviation, finance and insurance, and oil and gas). It explains the key principles of project risk management, and also introduces the reader to some of the breadth of terminology and approaches used in the ‘real world’ of project risk management. It is not intended to replace or supersede other risk management frameworks, guidance or reference material (for example, HM Treasury Orange Book and ISO 31000:2018), but instead, is intended to supplement them. This book is intended to offer practical guidance on the principles of project risk management to three primary audiences: early-career risk practitioners who want to further their general knowledge and understanding of risk management within the context of projects; experienced risk professionals who may be transitioning from one sector to another; experienced project practitioners (e.g. project managers, planners and cost engineers), who are transitioning into a specific risk practitioner role. Since the previous 2010 edition all chapters have been refreshed and updated, and there are two main areas of major addition: a greater emphasis on quantitative risk analysis, particularly within the context of the effect of biases and heuristics on decision making and several new chapters outlining some of the nuances of risk management across different industry sectors.
